Regular Town Board Meeting Minutes

1. Call to order by Chairman Sotka
Chairman Sotka called the meeting to order at 6:00pm

4. Approval of Agenda
Motion to approve the agenda by Supervisor Burmek. Seconded by Chairman Sotak. Carried 2-0-0


5. Public Input
Resident requested an update on the property on Arrowhead. Chairman Sotka informed him the DNR was called and all things are in proper order.


6. Approve and correct meeting minutes from Regular Town Board Meeting June 8, 2026, Special Town Board Meeting June 11, 2026, & Special Town Board Meeting June 18, 2026
Supervisor Burmek made a motion to approve minutes from Regular Town Board Meeting June 8, 2026, Special Town Board Meeting June 11, 2026 and Special Town Board Meeting June 18, 2026. Seconded by Chairman Sotka. Carried 2-0-0


7. Clerk-Treasurer’s Financial Report
F&M Checking account had a beginning balance of $58,718.10, $27,646.20 in deposits, withdrawals of $27,726.86 for an ending balance of $58,637.44. Fire Department checking had a beginning balance of $60,709.85, deposits of $62.00 for an ending balance of $60,771.85. General savings had a beginning balance of $526,974.64, deposits of $11,669.12, withdrawals of $25,000 for an ending balance of $513,643.76. Road Construction had a beginning balance of $250,677.43 deposits of interest $755.79 for an ending balance of $251,433.22. Fire Dept savings had a beginning balance of $2,928.43 deposits of interest $8.83 for an ending balance of $2,937.26. Grant Funds had a beginning balance of $43.55, gained 0.13 in interest for an ending balance of $43.68.
Chairman Sotka made a motion to approve the financial report. Seconded by Supervisor Burmek. Carried 2-0-0


8. Correspondence
Marinette County asked if we were interested in opening the hall tonight into tomorrow as a cooling center. Clerk Wilson will notify Marinette County Dispatch after the meeting.


9. Reports
    a. Plan Commission Report – None


    b. Ordinance Committee Report – None


    c. Public Works Report
Mowed ditches, removed refrigerator and couch from ditches, cut and chipped brush, installed fire numbers, graded gravel roads. Maplecrest Rd was paved on 06/18/2026, shouldering was completed the following week. Crack filling was completed on Birchwood Rd, Evan Ln, Shady Ln, Spur Rd, and Ferndale Rd


    d. Fire Department Report
Three calls, one Mabas, one lift assist, one CO alarm. CPR Training completed. Wash machine has arrived. Party in the Park Fundraiser scheduled for July 18, 2026.

11. New business
    a. Temporary Alcohol Beverage License – Healing Patriots
Chairman Sotka made a motion to approve the Temporary Alcohol Beverage License for Healing Patriots with the contingency that we obtain the signature needed. Seconded by Supervisor Burmek Carried 2-0-0


    b. Resolution 2026-03 Adopting 2025 Wisconsin Act 113 Increasing Court Fees
Chairman Sotka made motion to approve the increase court costs and resolution 2026-03. Seconded by Supervisor Burmek. Carried 2-0-0


    c. 2026-2027 Salt Contract
Jeremy Gross is suggesting we order 85 ton, same as ordered in 2025. The total price being $7,514.00. Chairman Sotka made a motion to approve the order of 85 ton. Seconded by Supervisor Burmek. Carried 2-0-0


    d. Permit Needed in Excess of 10 Tons
Jeremy Gross has suggested possibly having a permit for residents/companies to obtain by the town for trucks weighing over 10 tons. The form would have no cost, but place the liability of any road damage to the resident/company. Chairman Sotka would like to see it done on a building permit level. More information is needed


    e. Janitor Hours & Need
Chairman Sotka made a motion to go (make cleanings) once per week, and then on call as needed, and no longer clean the office or public works bathroom. Seconded by Supervisor Burmek. Carried 2-0-0


    f. Memorial Tree
Chairman Sotka would like to see a memorial tree planted in the center front property near the Town of Lake sign and flag. These would be small trees. The cost of the tree would be placed on the purchaser not the town. Supervisor Burmek suggested the backyard would be better to prevent obstructing the view for cars pulling in and out of the building. Chairman Sotka would like to plant a tree in memory of Kathy Weed and her years of service to the Town of Lake. Supervisor Burmek made a motion to get a memorial tree/monument to be located on Town of Lake property somewhere. Seconded by Chairman Sotka. Carried 2-0-0


    g. August Meeting Date Change – Due to Election
Due to the election on August 11, 2026 the board will need to change the date of their August meeting so election officials are able to setup the hall the day prior to the election. Chairman Sotak motioned to change the August meeting date to August 17, 2026 at 6pm. Seconded by Supervisor Burmek. Carried 2-0-0

Supervisor Burmek made a motion to adjourn at 7:02pm. Seconded by Chairman Sotka.
